An independent school, Owned by an independent instructor. I've been through all the normal pitfalls and got through them as well as dealing with a particularly difficult situation in my personal life. I passed my exams first try including the most difficult test (part 3) and I know what to do if the proverbial feces hits the fan... The franchise I was involved in was sadly only in it for the profits and after that experience I set out to do better.
I realised the clearly huge margin the franchise was making and seen a gap in the market. A genuine no BS, ethical driving school that strives to help it's instructors, learners and by default, the UK road safety at large.
My first instructor had the bedside manner of a grumpy librarian so when I qualified, I knew one of my biggest assets would be how I treat people. I was definitely right and I think it's the same when training anyone, especially when the big schools and industry are known for exploitation.
The term "ethical business" sounds like an oxymoron to the untrained ear but I believe with quality product comes quality clientele. I also believe that sacrificing morals isn't necessary or even the most profitable way to conduct a business. I'm sure that fair business practices produces better returns and bad ones can lead to unsatisfied clients, a damaged reputation and bad reviews.
My ideal candidate to take on as a trainee instructor would be someone open minded, motivated, likeable and always willing to learn regardless of the stage they are at or will get to. I would prefer to encourage my trainee to go independent themselves as the profit is simply better, the responsibility, manageable and the know-how teachable. For those not looking for the long hours or extra stress involved there are franchisee options available with independence always being kept open as an option should the desire arise.
